In March 2024, South Africa took a bold step to advance its infrastructure goals by announcing 12 priority projects during the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium of South Africa (SIDSSA) held at Century City in Cape Town. These projects form part of the national infrastructure pipeline for 2023/2024 and span several vital sectors—ranging from energy and transport to health, water, education, and agriculture. President Cyril Ramaphosa, delivering the keynote address, underscored the importance of coordinated planning and transparent procurement in improving the country’s infrastructure outlook. Supported by Infrastructure South Africa, the projects are designed to stimulate economic growth and create sustainable jobs by bringing together public and private sector investments. Question 2: Resource and Risk Navigation in Rail Upgrades (25 Marks) The aim of Project Ukuvuselela is to improve vehicle logistics by upgrading the rail corridor from Gauteng to the Eastern Cape.
