Problem #5 (20 points): 100
A closed, rigid, well-insulated horizontal cylinder is divided into two compartments by an insulating piston
that does not allow heat transfer between the two compartments. A stopper, which initially prevents
movement of the piston, is removed and the piston moves to an equilibrium state. The left compartment
initially contains of 2 mol of N_(2) at 300 K and 5 bar. The right compartment contains 3 mol of CO_(2) at 300 K
and 20 bar. Assume N_(2)(C_(p)=(5)/(2)R) and CO_(2)(C_(p)=(7)/(2)R) may be treated as ideal gases. Determine the final
temperature and pressure of the two compartments.
