1. (20 points) A 2100 MW coal fired power plant is burning Illinois bituminous coal (12,100 kJper lb, please use this number and unit in your calculation, note that 1 W = 1 J/s) at a rate of15000 metric tons per day. The coal has an ash content of 7% by mass, and 40% of the ash falls out the bottom of the furnace. The rest of the ash (the fly ash) is delivered into an electrostatic precipitator (ESP), which has an efficiency of 99.7% in removing the ash that comes into it. Please calculate the overall efficiency of this power plant, and the mass emissions rate of fly ash into the atmosphere from this plant.
