10. China developed gunpowder, paper, the compass, water-driven spinning machines and much else long before the Europeans. Yet the Chinese did not develop these inventions into practical industrial applications until well after the Europeans did. If you were a Chinese inventor and developed a way to turn an invention into a practical uses, if the China had a strong patent system would it be worth doing? Why or why not? If there was no patent system but you could still sell your invention would you be more or less inclined to make the investment in new technology? Why?
