A piston/cylinder with a cross-sectional area of 0.01m2 has a piston mass of 150kg resting on the stops and contains 5kg of water, as shown in the following figure. The outside atmospheric pressure is 95kPa. Please answer the following questions. a. Initially the temperature of the water is 100?C and the piston is resting on the base ring. The pressure is the same as when the piston detaches from the stops. Determine the initial volume occupied by the water and the internal energy of the water, in kJ. b. Next, heat is applied until the piston detaches from the stops; at that instant 10% of the mass of water has vaporized. Determine the quality of the saturated mix. c. For the condition in part (b) compute the specific volume and internal energy. d. On a P-v diagram, represent the process from the initial state (part a) to the final state (part b). Include on the axes the values for P, in kPa, and v in m3/kg.
