A pump draws water from a sump and delivers it to an open tank through of 2-in schedule 40 steel pipe. The vertical suction line is composed of 3-in schedule 40 steet pipe and is st fong. The suction line includes a foot value with hinged disk and a degree standard elbow. The discharge line includes two degree standard elbows, an angle lift check valve and a fully open gate valve. The design flow rate is . Find the head losses in the suction and discharge lines. Calculate the NPSHA. Select a pump suitable for this application. 1) Setup the generalized energy equation between a point on the surface of the water in the sump (Elev ) and a point at the inlet of the pump (Elev ). Solve for the pressure head at the inlet. Include entrance losses, friction from the 5 feet of straight pipe, and minor losses from the foot valve and elbow. 2) Find the stagnation pressure at the inlet of the pump and compute the NPSHA. 3) Setup the generalized energy equation between a point on the surface of the water in the sump (Elev ) and a point at the surface of the tank (Ele ). Solve for the required head on the pump, . In addition to the losses in step one also include exit loss, friction from the 180 feet of straight pipe, and minor losses from the two elbows, check valve and gate valve located in the discharge line. 4) We will try to find a centrifugal pump from Griswald" 811 ANSI Series. Download the pdf " 811 ANSI
