An irrigation canal is aligned parallel to a river, as shown in Figure Q1. This cross-lectice continues for \( 2.0 \mathrm{~km} \). The soils are generally clays, but a \( 120 \mathrm{~mm} \) thick sand seam is present as shown. (i) Compute the coefficient of permeability of sand if the water loss from the canal to the river due to seepage through this sand layer is \( 860000 \mathrm{~m}^{3} / y \) ear. (ii) Calculate the elevation head, the pressure head and the total head at points \( -\mathrm{Y}^{*}=\mathrm{g}^{*} \mathrm{Z}^{*} \). Point \( =\mathrm{Y} \) is in the middle of the sand seam. The elevation of point "Y" is (EL. \( 32 \mathrm{~m}) \) and the elevation of point \( Z \) is (EL. \( 17 \mathrm{~m} \) ). Both points are in the sand seam. Figure Q1
