Active Mode condition of BJT:

A Bipolar Junction Transistor is in active mode when the emitter-base junction is forward-biased and the collector-base junction is reverse-biased.

In active mode, the BJT is used as an amplifier. The forward bias on the emitter-base junction causes a large current to flow from the emitter to the base. This current is then amplified by the transistor and a much larger current flows from the collector to the emitter. The amount of current amplification is determined by the transistor's gain, which is denoted by   .
