As seen in Figure 5, an inverse U-shaped tube is used as a siphon to drain gasoline from a tank or reservoir. The bend of the inverted tube is above the free surface of the gasoline in the tank and above the ground where the gasoline is discharged. Gasoline exits the tube at atmospheric pressure.
