Chandler and Ross were both attending New York University together and were roommates. Ross had a fascination with dinosaurs and wanted to become a paleontologist. Chandler was unsure of what career he wanted and decided to try taking some finance courses. After four years, Ross and Chandler both graduated from the University. Subsequently, Chandler needed a place to stay and Ross informed him about an empty apartment across the hall from his grandmother. His sister, Monica, was also staying with his grandma and would be Chandler's neighbor. Chandler loved the apartment because it was one of the few that he could afford in the area. He moved in with another college friend, Kevin. Several years later Kevin moved out and Chandler's new roommate was Joey. One day, while Chandler and Joey were both at work, the apartment manager, Mr. Treeger entered their apartment and searched it. He even searched through their closets and drawers. When Chandler returned to his apartment that evening around 6:00 pm, he discovered what had happened. He immediately called Joey to let him know what had occurred. Joey then went to Mr. Treeger and complained. Mr. Treeger told Joey that he had a right to search the room because he was the manager for the property and that neither he nor Chandler had any right of privacy. Do you agree/disagree with Mr. Treeger's statements and why? Does the U.S. Constitution expressly grant Joey and Chandler the right to privacy and if so, which Amendment(s) provide them that right?
