Development of Two-Dimensional Elements
Plane Stres(s)/(S)train Rectangular Element with 4-Nodes
EXAMPLE 6.5
Evaluate the stiffness matrix and load vectors for the plane stress rectangular element
shown in Figure a. Perform the same if the element is divided into two triangular
elements. Assume t=1.0m,E=210GPa,v=0.3,p=100Pa, and \rho =0.5k(g)/(m^(3)). Find
the stresses in load cases 1 and 2 below, compare and comment on the results:
Case 1: Fix node 1&4 to create bending load
Case 2: Fix node 1 & 2 to create compression load.
APPROACH AND ASSUMPTIONS
Use the final derived equations for N
B and D matrices. For the consistent load vector,
we express the distributed load as components in x and y directions and perform the
integration in Eqn. 6.50.
