SWOT 6. make a judgement based on findings Environmental Scan This assignment allows you to understand that no business can operate independently of the market, no matter what the size of their market share is. It will allow you to enhance your research skills far beyond using google, help you understand the validity of good data, and give you the experience of conducting simple market and consumer research. This will also be a good practical example of your marketing knowledge to show potential employers (you can also add this assignment into your e-Portfolio at the end of the semester). Word Count: 2000 words A marketing plan is a document that summarises what the marketer has learned about the marketplace and based on this knowledge, proposes marketing strategies and tactics that will achieve the company's marketing objectives. For example: given what we know of the market, our customers and competitors the marketing plan will explain how to bring a new product to market, who to sell it to, what to sell it for, where to sell it and how to promote it. This assignment just covers the first two sections of the marketing plan (environmental analysis and SWOT analysis) - NOT the entire marketing plan. Task Description: Scenario: You are working for a large business consultancy firm. Your firm has just acquired Woolworths Supermarkets as a new client. They are concerned that despite a recent survey of Australian grocery buyers, conducted by Roy Morgan Ltd, which found that although 34% of Woolworths customers said that they would consider buying their groceries online, only 5% of grocery buyers actually shopped online (Roy Morgan, March 25 2019). Your task is to conduct a full environmental analysis for Woolworths as the first part of a marketing plan in order to help Woolworths make informed strategic marketing decisions about how to increase the online part of its business. Note: you are not required to do the full marketing plan - just the Environmental and SWOT analyses. The report back to the senior partners should explain: 1. What are the factors facing Woolworths? 2. What are the factors facing the supermarket industry? 3. Why you think customers are reluctant to buy online (this may take some simple market research)? 4. How these factors can be organised into a SWOT analysis? 5. What are the priorities for Woolworths that result from your analyses? There are a lot of data available if you search for it - your job will be to find, filter and analyse this data and write it up in a clear concise manner. You should consider data from before COVID19 and what has happened since. The big problem for the supermarket industry is to establish whether the recent uptake of on-line grocery sales due to customers staying at home is likely to remain after things get back to normal or will on- line sales slip back to the 5% mark. This report is your opportunity to showcase your knowledge of marketing to the senior management team of your firm.
