Communication in high-context cultures is frequently indirect, subtle, and strongly dependent on non-verbal clues, common presumptions, and contextual awareness. In contrast, communication in low-context cultures is typically more direct, clear and verbally explicit. Information is presented clearly in low-context societies without assuming shared knowledge or context, where context is less important. High-context cultures give a lot of weight to relationships, common history, and context. High-context cultures place a lot of importance on nonverbal cues including tone of voice, body language, and facial expressions. Non-verbal cues may be less significant in low-context cultures where verbal communication is prioritized. My experience with both context cultures have been at a minimum as I don’t believe I have any to begin with. However, there are certain measures I can take in order for me to prevent misunderstanding any opposite cultural context that are different from my own. For starters, education is key. Taking the time out to learn the difference from my context and others will allow an appropriate approach at any discussion existing. Also, building relationships with different cultures can help adapt to what it’s like to see things or experiences from their point of view. For example, a simple open-minded conversation with an individual who is not an American like myself will help me to understand their background, and communicate with them effectively.
There are a few things you may take to prevent miscommunications while communicating with somebody whose heritage is completely different from your own. It's crucial to first comprehend the distinctions between high-context and low-context cultures as well as the ramifications of each. Second, you can try to learn the values and customs of the group with which you are dealing and communicate in a way that respects those values and customs. Finally, you should be patient and open to listening because it could take the other person some time to understand your viewpoint. For instance, if you are conversing with someone from a high-context culture but are from a low-context culture, you might want to attempt learning some of the standard greetings and expressions in that society. Users should make an effort to comprehend the value of interpersonal interactions as well as the significance of nonverbal cues in that culture's communication. Additionally, you need have patience and be open to listening because the other person might not immediately understand what you're saying.
