QUESTION 2: A refrigerator is to be used in the production of a continuous supply of chilled water at a temperature of 283 K and at a rate of \( 25 \mathrm{~kg} / \mathrm{s} \). The refrigerant circulating in the cycle is \( \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O} \). Saturated steam at 0.87 kPa at point 2 enters an adiabatic compressor of \( 80 \% \) efficiency, and is compressed to 10 kPa at point 3 , from which point it enters a condenser. It emerges at point 4 as a saturated liquid at 10 kPa , heat having been discharged to the surroundings at 298 K . The saturated liquid flashes through a valve, which acts as a throttle to reduce the pressure to 0.87 kPa at point 1 . The remaining liquid is vaporized in the evaporator, producing saturated vapor at point 2 . The water to be chilled also passes through the evaporator and by heat exchange with the evaporating refrigerant is cooled from its feed temperature of 298 K to 283 K . Determine the power requirement of the compressor ( kW ), and the rate of heat rejection to the surroundings( \( \mathrm{kJ} / \mathrm{s} \) ). Make a thermodynamic analysis of the process.
